# domain_verification_failed

> The DNS records are not right yet. Guv looked up your DNS and could not find the record it asked for.

**The DNS records are not right yet.** Guv looked up your DNS and could not find the record it asked for. DNS changes can take a few minutes to appear, and sometimes longer with some registrars.

- **HTTP status:** `422 Unprocessable Content`
- **CLI exit code:** `2` (the request or file is not valid)
- **Retry:** safe to retry with the same `Idempotency-Key`

## How to fix it

Add the records in dns_records[] at your DNS provider; changes can take up to an hour.

1. Check the record name and value exactly match what Guv shows, including any trailing dot.
2. Wait a few minutes, then run `guv domains verify <hostname>` again.

## What the response looks like

```json
{
  "type": "https://guv.dev/errors/domain_verification_failed",
  "title": "The DNS records are not right yet",
  "status": 422,
  "code": "domain_verification_failed",
  "detail": "Guv looked up your DNS and could not find the record it asked for.",
  "fix": "Add the records in dns_records[] at your DNS provider; changes can take up to an hour.",
  "docs_url": "https://guv.dev/errors/domain_verification_failed",
  "request_id": "req_01jbx2m9k7q4r8t5v6w3y0z1rq"
}
```

The `code` field is stable: match on it, not on `title` or `detail`, which may be reworded.
